Yaki Sugi is art

This is an ancient Japanese art of refining wood with fire. The black charred colouring and unique surface texture make carbonised wood a special work of art in itself. For this reason, they are also very popular with artists as a creative material. Together with other materials such as glass, metal and steel, our traditionally carbonised woods create a fascinating effect time and time again.

Deep Charred Wood as a design element

When creating their works of art, artists often refer to original elements from nature, honest beauty, pure character and individuality.

Our carbonised woods combine all of these characteristics in one material: the wood is extracted from nature and carefully charred and refined by hand using the natural element of fire.

After this treatment, the traditionally carbonised woods develop their characteristic, beautiful and fascinating effect. With their black colouring, charred patina and unique wood structure, they are the ideal design element for artists from various genres.

The ideal design element for your interior

Handcrafted works of art made from carbonised wood are the ideal design element for a modern, elegant and stylish interior. They create attractive accents in the interior and catch the eye of onlookers.

If you have already designed your facade in black carbonised wood, you can use carbonised art to bring the style inside in an aesthetic way, creating an impressive connection between the interior and exterior of your building.

The Black Edition by Markus Stranig

The Salzburg artist Markus Stranig has staged our carbonised woods as an artistic highlight in his Black Edition. In these works, he explores the question of what emotions the artworks in their special combination of wood and metal trigger in the viewer.

He elegantly plays with the message of the “non-colour” black: it should not appear dark and heavy in his works, but rather stand for memory, credibility and individuality. The black charred wood and the metal combine in his artworks and form an interesting symbiosis. See for yourself – and discover the Black Edition by Markus Stranig.
