Development of our traditional, vertical deep-charring process
At the time, there were only a few manufacturers of these carbonized woods in the world, and almost all of them processed their wood using the industrial combustion method, in which the surface is flamed with the fossil fuel natural gas. The disadvantage of this is that burning natural gas consumes a lot of energy and consequently releases a lot of CO2 into the atmosphere.
This consumption of resources was not an option for the company owners of Ennobled. They found a different, more sustainable solution for producing the carbonized wood: traditional, vertical deep charring. According to the old Japanese tradition of Yakisugi, three wooden planks are placed in a vertical triangular shape. The inside of this tube is ignited with a paper. The resulting chimney effect burns all the wooden surfaces on the inside evenly. As soon as the top layer of wood is charred, the fire is extinguished. The result is carbonized wood with a special, black charred look and exceptional structure and texture.
The advantages of traditional deep charring
In contrast to the industrial burning method, no fossil fuels or chemicals are required! In addition, manual carbonization has another decisive advantage: the wood surface is carbonized particularly deeply and thoroughly. This creates a thick layer of carbon that protects the wood from the penetration of fungi, insects, moisture and the effects of the weather.
Today, we can proudly say that our Deep Charred Wood is a particularly durable, sustainable, high-quality and long-lasting quality product!
