for timeless architecture
At Ennobled, local wood meets the tried-and-tested Yakisugi tradition from Japan: we carbonise Kebony®, Accoya®, spruce or larch with our traditional, vertical deep charring.
This sustainable method gives our wood, which is charred black or finished in shades of brown and grey, high weather resistance, improved fire resistance, beautiful texture and modern elegance – ideal for long-lasting façades or exclusive interiors.
Using our traditional, vertical deep-charring process, our woods are carbonised with pure flame according to the Japanese Yakisugi method, resulting in extremely resistant, durable wood products with a unique, black charred surface structure which, thanks to its exclusive character, is also compared to alligator skin, silk wood or leather.
If you opt for the refined style, the already carbonised wood is then carefully brushed by hand and refined using a special process so that the grain and structure are revealed under the layer of carbon. Depending on the processing and type of wood, our wood finishing creates an exclusive colour look: from elegant silver-grey to an ingenious reclaimed wood look in rustic brown tones.
As pioneers, we have introduced sustainable, traditional and vertical deep charring according to the Japanese Yakisugi method to the Austrian market.
Having started in Salzburg, we now supply our carbonised wood throughout Europe. Our projects range from the DACH region to Holland, Italy and Croatia, and occasionally even to America and South Africa!
We, Ennobled GmbH, have always remained true to our high quality standards. We are passionate about values such as sustainability, diversity, research and innovation. As the centrepiece of our comprehensive service, we offer you personal and expert customer support!
Technical expertise, top quality and personalised, individual all-round support.
For centuries, people in Japan have relied on a tried and tested method of preserving wood: shou sugi ban, also known as yakisugi. In this process, the surface of the wood is carbonised by controlled burning with fire, making it durable in a natural way.
This gives the wood natural protection against moisture, wind and weather, while at the same time making it more resistant, durable and fire-resistant – all without using fossil fuels such as gas and chemicals! The special side effect: Yakisugi creates a unique, sophisticated look with exceptional structure, colour and texture.
We have rediscovered the Japanese tradition of Yakisugi/Shou Sugi Ban: we carefully carbonise spruce, larch, Accoya® , Kebony® & Co by hand in the traditional way with pure flame – without industrial influences! With our energy-saving, vertical deep-charring process, we burn particularly deeply – without fossil fuels and without chemicals. In contrast to industrial firing with gas, this method is considered to be much more sustainable and climate-friendly.
The result is our Deep Charred Wood: an extremely resistant, durable wood with an exclusive, deep black colour and a unique, three-dimensional texture and structure.
Our woodworking is carefully crafted by hand in our manufactory. There, the wood is precisely planed, carbonised, brushed and finished.
This makes each individual Deep Charred Wood a very special one-off – and customised and special designs are also possible!
Ecologically correct and sustainable, but modern and stylish at the same time? We think so: Both are possible! Facades or interiors made of carbonised wood are not only a beautiful eye-catcher, but also a particularly environmentally friendly, durable natural product with high quality. This is also proven by our sustainability criteria.
